Welcome to the first edition of the RevCentral Newsletter!
Right now, you're probably asking yourself, "What is RevCentral" and why are you bugging me?

Well, as you may know, Chipp Walters and I have been putting together the world's largest gathering of Revolution developers for June 17-18 in Monterey, California. That's been doing so well, a group of us got together and decided we needed a more regular, direct way of keeping in touch with folks like you who build cool stuff in Revolution. RevCentral is the result of that.

RevCentral will consist of this free newsletter and a soon-to-be-open Web site. The site will be home to some of the greatest third-party Revolution developer tools you'll find. These will include Jan Schenkel's Quartam Reports, Jerry Daniels' Inpsector Gadget, Richard Gaskin's Devolution toolkit, Ken Ray's SYSTray 2.0 and bunches of stuff from Altuit (that's Chipp's company).

We're also planning to have a resource center where you can download some freebies along with tips and techniques. This newsletter itself will be a valuable source of news and cool tips which you'll look forward to receiving periodically.

So why did we pick you to receive this newsletter? You're receiving this email because you've either signed up at the Altuit website, or have purchased an Altuit product, registered to attend a Rev Conference, or purchased one of my books. If you want to unsubscribe, then just click the link at the bottom of the newsletter. We'll be sad to see you go, but we'll understand.

I hope you're as excited about this as we are. Stay tuned for more great newsletters coming your way soon!

Finding Local IP address
Here's a sweet function from Dar Scott to return the local IP address of a computer.
Just put this in a button.
on mouseUp
  answer localIPAddress()
end mouseUp

-- localIPAddress
-- Returns the IP address on the local machine that
-- would be used in connecting to the Internet.
-- Works on Revolution 2.3 and up.  -- Tested on XP and OS X with Rev 2.5.1
function localIPAddress
  constant publicAddr = "9.9.9.9:80|localIPAddress"
  open datagram socket to publicAddr
  get hostAddress(publicAddr)
  close socket publicAddr
  return it
end localIPAddress

It's going to be fun, informative, and a real chance to meet some of the most famous of the Revolutionaries in a beautiful coastal California setting. It happens June 17-18.

If you're already signed up, then you should know we're going to be using this newsletter as one of our ways of keeping in touch with you over the next few weeks leading up to the conference. If you're NOT already signed up...why not?

Seriously, check out the RevCon West Web site for details and to register. It's only $195 and when you see the list of speakers and topics (posting to the site soon) you'll be blown away.
