CyberIsland Success Story

Hey Folks,

Check out the web sites we created for Remnant Fellowships. I think you will find the development story interesting:

I started by creating a prototype for Washington and then cloned that site for all the other regional fellowships; currently 115 churches in 35 different regions (states, provinces and countries).

Using our CMS Hemingway (Content Management System), I was able to turn this around quick.

Here's a brief case study:
-------------------------------

The Call:
I was contacted on a Friday evening, by Robie Bass of Remnant International asking for my input on creating regional sites for Remnant Fellowships. I immediately saw this as a great application for Hemingway CMS. I proposed the idea and offered to get a prototype together.

Day 1:
By noon the next day, Saturday I had a prototype online. No style or graphics, just content. I directed the Remnant folks to this site, and they we blown away that I already had a site for them to look at.

I spent Saturday afternoon tweaking with colors and graphics to match their main site at www.remnantfellowship.org. I felt it was important to make the satellite sites tie into the look of the master site.

Day 3:
On Monday morning I presented the completed prototype site, with stand-in content to the Remnant International. The approved the general look and feel but want to rename a couple of navigation tabs, and requested the addition of a new tab section. I made these changes, LIVE, while we were on the phone; receiving immediate approval. Then entire phone meeting was under 30 minutes. In that call we determined who was responsible for the remaining content.

Days 4 & 5:
All the content arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday. I cut in their content as it was delivered. All along the client was able to review the progress in real time.

Day 6:
On Thursday received final approval after a few minor changes-- again, changes implemented in real-time with the client on the telephone directing me.

I spent the rest of Thursday setting up all the administrative permissions to allow each site to be maintained by each local fellowship. I purposely held off cloning sites at this time, knowing that there may be more changes or good ideas. We also set up all the DNS records for every state, province and country.

Day 7:
On Friday we cloned all the sites with generic content and had them online, just one week after the initial exploratory phone call!

This week we are training regional editors and the process of local ownership and content maintenance as begun. Since no knowledge of HTML is required and the only tool is a web browser, anybody can be trained to edit and maintain web content!

One cool feature in Hemingway is the ability to Share Webs. In addition to creating a regional logins for all the sites we also shared those webs with a couple of national content editor logins, designed to give hose editor super user status, being able edit and review all the sites with a single log in. This is especially helpful to training and support.
--------------------
That's the story...

Hemingway rocks! I can't imagine doing this so easily or so quickly using any other technology!
