Welcome to HemPC

Welcome to the Hemingway PC Reference Manual. This manual describes the user interface and many features of HemingwayPC (henceforth referred to as "HemPC"). Users who are not familiar with Hemingway should consider first reading the "Beginner Tutorial and Manual" in the support area of the Altuit website.
About HemPC HemPC™ is a desktop application which interfaces to the Hemingway Content Management Server™. Before HemPC, all interaction with Hemingway was done via a web page. While this functionality allows you to access your Hemingway websites from any browser on any computer, it can be cumbersome for repetitive tasks. This is because HTML and forms limit a browser-based interface. Desktop (or 'Client') applications, like Microsoft Word, can provide for a much richer user experience, while making it easier to compose documents. Those who use HemPC will see right away how easy it is to build websites and manage their content versus the browser-based approach.
HemPC Architecture HemPC is made up of a single PC executable application "HemPC.exe." It is installed where you designate. HemPC will automatically install plugins for different features. When you click on a plugin button (for instance, ImageGadget), HemPC will check and see if it is already installed. If not, it will call the main Altuit website, and download the latest versions from there. In this way, you are always guaranteed to have the latest and greatest versions of the plugins installed on your computer.

If you do not have access to the Altuit server (i.e. behind a firewall or private network) then you'll have to install all the plugins at the same time you install HemPC. Contact your Systems Administrator if you have problems loading your plugins. They may need to provide you with new versions.
