Where are they kept?
On WindowsXP and Win2000, Hemingway stores all plugins in the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Altuit\Hem2\Plugins
There is one exception to this. The HTMLtoPDF plugin installs some files in a different folder. See the HTMLtoPDF plugin for more information.
Installing Plugins
Each time HemPC launches, it contacts the main Altuit server and receives a list of the current versions for plugins. When a plugin launches, it first checks to see if a newer version exists. If it does, the user is prompted to replace the old version. If the user answers YES then the old version is deleted and a new version downloaded. The user must then launch the plugin again to view the new version. If a plugin is corrupted or the download is not completed, the user can either delete the plugin from the Plugin folder mentioned above, or select: Clear All Plugins from the GO menu (this will delete all the plugins in the Plugins folder). Note: this scheme works with the main Altuit server visible to any Hemingway Server.
If HemPC cannot connect to the Altuit main server (i.e. behind a firewall), then no plugin list will be available and plugins will not be downloaded. There are two ways to install plugins in this instance. The first is to manually copy the plugin to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Altuit\Hem2\Plugins
The second (and preferred way) is to have the plugins reside in the same directory HemPC does. When HemPC sees it cannot connect, it will automatically copy the plugins from it's default folder, to the correct folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Altuit\Hem2\Plugins
So, a Sys Admin, behind a firewall, would deliver the HemPC.exe app with all the plugins. From then on, the SysAdmin would be responsible for updating plugins.
