Retractable Screens for Casement Windows

Casement windows are a popular choice for today's homes because they offer large openings and can be operated easily and quickly. A casement window is hinged on the side and swings out much like a door, allowing plenty of fresh air into the home and making it easy to clean both sides of the glass from the inside. This design, while convenient, is always a problem to screen because the window swings out to the place where the screen on other more traditional types of window screens would be. Putting the screen on the inside is also problematic since the handle that operates the window and the latches are there and the screen will be in the way when it is time to clean the window.

Retractable screens for casement windows are the answer. When not needed the screen is stored away in a housing at the side or top of the opening leaving an unobstructed view of the outside. When the window is opened the screen can simply be pulled into place. The problem is the coiling spring-loaded retractable screens for casement windows previously available have other problems. The large size of the frames are unattractive and often interfere with the window handles: they tend to pop open unexpectedly when bumped or from a gust of wind and the fabric blows out easily with anything more than a mild breeze

The Perfect Casement Window Screen

Screen Solutions Inc has the Plissé (PLEE'-say) retractable screen which takes advantage of a unique pleated fabric which folds into its own housing. The Plissé's small, inconspicuous frame is an attractive addition and will not interfere with casement window handles. The Plissé's springless design eliminates any possibility of the screen unexpectedly popping open. In addition, the Plissé's use of tensioning lines keeps the fabric firmly in place in any wind that you would comfortably open your windows to.
