Vicki Waters, M.S., PA-C is an Instructor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and a Clinical Coordinator for the Physician Assistant Program. She graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program in 1997. She provided clinical services at the Lyndon B. Johnson Emergency Center for the Harris County Hospital District prior to joining the PA program faculty full-time in May of 2000. In addition to her interest in training physician assistant educators and students in the core competencies of caring for patients with substance use disorders, she is interested in high-risk behavior in health care providers.
She began her service to PA professional organizations as the PA student representative to the American Medical Student Association’s Coalition of Health Professional Students. She served on the board of the Student Academy of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (SAAAPA) as Vice President in 1997. In addition, she served as the student representative to the NCCPA board of directors, and as the student representative to the AAPA Constituent Relations Committee (CRC). As a graduate, she has been a member of the AAPA Leadership Advisory Commission and the PA Foundation Programs and Conference committees. She is excited about getting involved with TAPA, and hopes to make a contribution to the excellent services they provide to Texas PA’s, PA students, and Texas PA programs.
Her goals for the TAPA Award’s Committee include providing a mechanism for award nominations and applications, increasing the number of applicants, and securing sponsorship for the TAPA awards. She welcomes your comments and questions, and encourages anyone interested in becoming a part of the TAPA awards committee to “take the plunge” and contact her at vwaters@bcm.tmc.edu
