Program Description
Equine Angels has been in operation the past 6 years to fulfill specific physical needs of a very special population the severely disabled child (those who cannot walk and/or talk without assistance.) Our feeling is the time has come to expand our services to incorporate the social and academic needs of these special children. The creation of Equine Angels Learning Academy in combination with Equine Angels Special Therapy Center, provides a very special group of children a place designed especially for them where they can come several days a week to receive all the services they need to enhance their quality of life.
Equine Angels Learning Academy and Special Therapy Center will provide 46 weeks of services throughout the year, unlike traditional learning settings. Each child will attend 4 days a week, and will receive structured educational classes with a 2:1 student to teacher ratio, as well as private therapy sessions with a 1:1 patient to therapist ratio.
Each child will be given a learning curriculum created specifically for his or her unique needs and abilities. Programs will be designed around the following 5 themes: Life/Self Help Skills; Social Skills; Communication; Mobility; and, Academic Growth & Development. Our goal is to help each of these children achieve functional independence and notable recognition for the abilities they possess.
Every week each child will receive 2 private, 1hr Physical Therapy sessions (one of which is either Horseback or Aquatic Therapy) 2 private 1-hr Occupational Therapy sessions, and 2 private 45-min Speech Therapy sessions. In addition, all children will receive adaptive physical education, group music and other fine arts education at least 2 days each week.
Families will be offered nutrition and lifestyle classes, and a Family Education, Resource and Support Group are all included in our program offerings.
The Learning Academy and Special Therapy Center will be staffed with licensed, credentialed professionals in the fields of special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and program administration. All services will be offered at one location with the exception of the Horseback and Aquatic Therapies.
