Horseback Therapy
What is Horseback Therapy?
True Horseback Therapy or hippotherapy is a treatment modality used by licensed, credentialed health professionals (actual therapists) who have a strong treatment background in posture and movement, neuromotor function and sensory processing, to achieve specific physical goals utilizing the movement of a horse. It is a specialty in the field of Physical Therapy and can be highly effective, and result in great benefits when used to treat many types of physical disabilities.

During our Horseback Therapy program, we use a variety of horse-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being of people with disabilities. When administered properly, this therapy can provide benefits in the areas of exercise, motor planning, muscle coordination, range of motion, balance, strength, endurance, stimulation and flexibility.

At Equine Angels, the expertise of a licensed Physical Therapist is always coupled with the high quality movements of our specially selected and trained horses to facilitate physical progress in our participants. The main focus is on the therapy element; therefore, each session is conducted by the Physical Therapist using hands-on treatment throughout the entire ride. We feel that this is the most effective approach when working with the level of disabilities we consider to be our specialty.
