Aquatic Therapy
What is Aquatic Therapy?
When an experienced practitioner of Physical Therapy applies their knowledge to a patient in an aquatic environment, the result is Aquatic Therapy. It is a specialty of Physical Therapy, and is one of the fastest growing segments in the field.  When administered properly, it can provide benefits in the areas of exercise, motor planning, muscle coordination, range of motion, balance, strength, endurance, circulation, pain reduction, and flexibility.

Aquatic Therapy uses the buoyancy, warmth and variable resistance of water to make it possible for patients with extreme physical disabilities to exercise weakened or spastic muscles.  The warm water reduces spasticity and relaxes muscles allowing participants to move with greater mobility and less pain. The water is used as both support and resistance.

.
Water provides an environment which reduces body weight by up to 90% depending on the depth immersed. This non-weight bearing benefit is the single most important factor in Aquatic Therapy. It decreases stress and impact on the body and; therefore, makes water an excellent exercise medium for a wide variety of participants.

The Equine Angels Aquatic Therapy pool and spa were designed specifically for the purpose of this very effective therapy. Today, new technologies and treatment protocols have given water a new importance in the field of Physical Therapy, and Equine Angels Special Therapy Center is proud to be able to offer it to our very special participants.
